A Message from the Superintendent

August 26, 2026
Dear Pittston Area Families,
As we begin a new school year, I would like to take a moment to share some of the many exciting improvements completed across the district over the past several months, as well as projects that are set to begin.
Districtwide, we are excited to introduce a new math curriculum and textbook series. The implementation of the new Harcourt math series will provide students and teachers with an updated, standards-aligned mathematics curriculum that strengthens foundational skills, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving. A consistent districtwide program will promote instructional continuity across grade levels, provide teachers with comprehensive instructional and assessment resources, support differentiated learning, and incorporate digital tools to enhance student engagement and achievement.
At Pittston Area High School, the stormwater management project has been completed. These improvements will enhance the safety, resiliency, and long-term condition of the school property by reducing flooding, erosion, and uncontrolled runoff.
In the coming weeks, the district will also undertake a major roadway improvement project designed to enhance the overall safety and traffic flow of the complex by providing dedicated turning lanes into and out of the campus.
Please pay close attention to the district website and app for updates regarding arrival and dismissal procedures as this construction project begins. While I apologize for any inconvenience these necessary improvements may cause, I am confident that the completed project will provide significant long-term benefits to the safety of our students, staff, and school community.
At Martin L. Mattei Middle School, all classrooms have been equipped with brand-new Promethean boards. These interactive displays provide teachers with enhanced instructional tools and give students more opportunities to actively participate in lessons, collaborate, and engage with digital content.
At the Martin F. Quinn Primary Center, the Tom Tigue Memorial Park, located at the school’s entrance, is now complete. This meaningful addition to our campus will be formally dedicated in the coming weeks. We look forward to celebrating this special project with our school community.
Our Technology Department has also worked diligently to upgrade Chromebooks for students in grades six, eleven, and twelve. In addition, the district has replaced all network switches. This important upgrade will improve the safety, reliability, and resiliency of our infrastructure while providing the capacity necessary to support current and future technology demands.
Finally, the replacement of all district exterior doors has been completed. The new doors will be equipped with decorative graphics while also incorporating enhanced safety and security features.
These improvements represent a significant investment in the future of the Pittston Area School District. They provide our students and staff with improved facilities, modern technology, enhanced safety measures, and resources designed to support teaching and learning for years to come.
I look forward to another successful school year and to the exciting opportunities and challenges it will bring. Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and schools.
As always, I remain Patriot Proud!
Yours in education,
Kevin Booth
