As summer break quickly comes to an end, I would like to take a moment to share the many exciting improvements made across our buildings and campuses over the past few months.
At the Martin L. Mattei Complex, home to our Intermediate and Middle School buildings, we have made substantial upgrades:
All classroom and hallway carpeting has been replaced in both buildings.
The Intermediate Center gym floor has been completely replaced.
The Middle School gym floor is currently being repaired and refinished and is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
All sidewalks at the complex have been removed and replaced.
Parking areas have been seal-coated or repaired as needed.
Some additional work will continue at the complex until the entire project is completed, and we appreciate your patience as we finish these improvements.
At Pittston Area High School, we are in the midst of a major stormwater management project, along with paving and seal-coating of existing roads and parking areas. The auditorium has been upgraded with new energy-efficient LED lighting, improving both brightness and cost-effectiveness.
At the Martin F. Quinn Primary Center, all parking areas have been seal-coated, and we’re proud to announce the near completion of the Tom Tigue Memorial Park, located at the school’s entrance. This meaningful project will be dedicated in the coming weeks.
Inside all district buildings, our technology team has worked diligently to upgrade every classroom with new Wi-Fi access points. These improvements will significantly enhance network speed and capacity, supporting teaching and learning in every classroom.
We are also excited to unveil the new Pittston Area School District website, available at www.pittstonarea.com, along with the launch of the Pittston Area app, now available on both Google Play and the Apple App Store. The app will serve as your go-to resource for menus, event calendars, school updates, and student accomplishments. Additionally, Skyward Family Access remains an essential tool for staying informed about your child’s academic progress and school communications.
Please pay close attention to the website and app for any updates or changes to arrival and dismissal procedures as our construction projects continue. While I apologize for any inconvenience these necessary upgrades may cause, I am confident that the end results will greatly benefit our students and school community.
These improvements lay a strong foundation for the future of the Pittston Area School District, ensuring our students learn in first-rate facilities with access to modern technology and expanded opportunities for success.
I look forward to another successful school year and the exciting challenges it may bring. As always, I remain Patriot Proud!
Yours in education,
Kevin Booth
Superintendent, Pittston Area School District
