Welcome back to another exciting school year at the Martin L. Mattei Middle School!!
Important items for you to know:
1. 6th Grade and NEW student orientation will be held on Friday, August 22nd from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM **Students MUST be with a parent or guardian (preferably ONE parent and no siblings to lessen crowding in the halls) and should report to the cafeteria.
Students will be introduced to the Administrative Team as well as Guidance, Technology and Secretarial staff at the MLM MS and also have the chance to get their locker location and combination!! (Bring your appropriate and removable locker decorations / accessories!!)
**This is an OPTIONAL event, but your participation is encouraged!!
2. Student schedules will be posted on Skyward.
**The ONLY schedule changes will be for errors such as incorrect class, etc.
(“My friend is not in my class” is not a legitimate reason for a schedule change – please refrain from making such requests.)
3. The 1st student day of school for the 2025-2026 school year will be Monday, August 25, 2025.
4. Student drop off begins at 8:00 AM each day. Student pick up for walkers / car riders is 2:50 PM. PLEASE FOLLOW THESE TIMES TO ASSIST US WITH TRAFFIC ON THE CAMPUS. AS ALWAYS PLEASE FOLLOW ALL POSTED TRAFFIC REGULATIONS AND PARK ONLY IN LINED SPOTS!!! NO DOUBLE PARKING OR BLOCKING OF CROSSWALKS IS ALLOWED!!! (Students should ONLY be signed out of school EARLY on the rare occasion of an appointment that must be made during the school day). IF a student must be excused early they MUST be signed out no later than 2:30 PM. After 2:30 PM, students will be dismissed at the regular dismissal time only. *This is to ensure the safe dismissal of the nearly 900 students at the MLM MS with no disruptions from 2:30 PM until dismissal. PLEASE follow these guidelines to assist us with the safety of our students!!
5. ALL students should be in the PASD RELAXED DRESS CODE on the 1st day of school – dress code appropriate shorts are allowed. It is IMPERATIVE that all clothing fits properly and provides appropriate coverage at all times. Hoods ARE NOT ALLOWED to be worn during the school day. They must be stored in lockers if worn to school as a jacket. (Please refer to student dress code on our web site: www.pittstonarea.com for a detailed description)
6. Cell phones, Air Pods, Smartwatches, and ALL electronic devices MUST be powered off and stored in locked lockers immediately at the start of the school day. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule. Any student found in possession of a cell phone or any electronic device throughout the school day will have their item stored in the office until a parent / guardian can pick it up. Students may also face disciplinary action for failure to follow this simple policy. The only allowable electronic device that should be in a classroom is the school issued Chromebook.
7. Parents and students please review your handbook online and return all forms that must be signed to your homeroom teacher.
The Pittston Area School District has made a tremendous amount of improvements to our facility this summer. New sidewalks and entry ways, new pavement and curbs in all parking areas, new carpeting and flooring throughout the entire building and many other improvements!! We are excited for you to see the amazing progress at our school!!
The Administrative, Support Staff, and Maintenance Teams have been working very hard to make this an exciting and successful school year!! Please do YOUR part and be TRUE PATRIOTS…..READY, RESPONSIBLE, and RESPECTFUL!!!!
