🇺🇸 AMVETS Americanism Contest at Pittston Area Primary Center 🇺🇸
Kindergarten, first, and second grade students at the Pittston Area Primary Center proudly participated in the AMVETS Americanism Contest! Our kindergarten and first grade students colored the American flag and answered questions about its meaning, while second grade students wrote essays answering the question, “What does it mean to be an American?” and illustrated their ideas with drawings.
The photos featured highlight our schoolwide winners. The top three students from each grade level were selected to represent our school and were submitted to the local and state AMVETS contests.
The AMVETS Americanism Program is a patriotic initiative that supports schools and youth organizations in teaching students—from kindergarten through 12th grade—about American heritage, civics, and citizenship through age-appropriate flag drawing, poster, and essay contests. We are so proud of our students for their thoughtful work and patriotism! 🇺🇸✨ #AMVETS #PAproud #Americanism

Just when we thought our school was safe… the Grinch paid a visit to Pittston Area Primary Center! 😲
He was spotted sneaking through the halls, stealing school supplies and even making off with a few teachers! 📚🖍️😂
Luckily, his mischief brought nothing but laughter, Christmas cheer, and unforgettable fun for our students and staff on one of the last days before winter break. ❄️🎅

Mrs. Flynn and her class had a great time making memories during this holiday season! Students wrote first drafts and final copies of letters to Santa. Their elf Rudolph took them right to the boss! They made Christmas stockings, ornament wreaths, Christmas trees, and reindeer food. They had Brunch with Santa and had their picture taken with him. They loved wearing their pajamas on Polar Express Day and having chocolate milk and cookies while watching the movie. The Grinch movie was a hit too. Finally they had a Christmas party with a Secret Santa gift exchange to experience the joy of giving during this magical time of year. From our hearts in Room 222 to yours, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! XOXO

Pittston Area Primary Center students were recently honored for their outstanding reading achievements! Students tracked the books they read through the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins RoboReaders program, and those with the highest number of books read in each grade were recognized and received special prizes. 🏆
A huge congratulations to Mrs. Melvin’s class, who read the most books in the entire county during the program! Because of their incredible effort, they will enjoy an additional celebration with Tux the mascot in the coming weeks. 🐧🎉
This event highlighted the importance of reading in elementary school, including key benefits of reading daily:
📖 Builds strong vocabulary and language skills
📖 Improves focus, comprehension, and critical thinking
📖 Encourages imagination, confidence, and a love of learning
The celebration also encouraged students to keep reading, as the Accelerated Reader program will begin for first and second grade students when they return from holiday break.
A special thank you to Mrs. Chaump and Mrs. Rava for organizing this wonderful event and helping inspire our young readers to succeed. 💙📘
Way to go, Pittston Area Primary Center! 👏

Our students stepped into a festive world of literacy and holiday fun at Reading Winter Wonderland! ✨
They rotated through engaging stations that brought literacy to life—sequencing activities and sensory hot cocoa writing, and even a cozy hot chocolate station ☕️ to spark imagination.
Students created circuit holiday cards, played Roll a Story, crafted adorable winter ornaments ⛄️, and captured special moments with Santa and other holiday characters 📸🎅. To top it all off, each student received a gingerbread-themed book to take home and enjoy with their families.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this magical, memory-filled day possible. Reading has never felt so sweet! ❤️📖

Our students mixed up special batches of reindeer food made with “magical” oats and festive sprinkles. 🦌💫 They created these treats on the same joyful day we crafted our salt dough ornaments and cinnamon applesauce ornaments—the whole hallway smelled like holiday cheer!
It was a wonderful day of creativity, fun, and seasonal magic. ❤️✨

Grinch Day was a huge success at Pittston Primary Center! Different classrooms celebrated in their own special ways. Students showed their Grinch spirit by dressing in green while enjoying activities such as sock exchanges, pizza parties, and fun rounds of Grinch Bingo.
To make the day even more magical, we had a very special visitor — a life-size Elf on the Shelf! 🎅✨
Smiles, laughter, and holiday cheer filled the building as our students made wonderful memories together.

What a magical day, our students celebrated Polar Express Day! The excitement was in the air as students watched The Polar Express, enjoyed tasty Yoo-Hoo and Oreo cookies, and truly felt the holiday spirit.
A special highlight of the day was Principal Mr. Savokinas, who brought the story to life by dressing as the Polar Express conductor and personally punching each student’s golden ticket—just like in the movie! ✨🎟️

What a magical week at the Pittston Area Primary Center! Santa stopped by for special Santa Brunches, spreading holiday cheer to all our students. Each class had the chance to take a picture with Santa before he made his way to the cafeteria to visit students during lunch. 📸🎄
Our halls were filled with festive excitement and beautifully written letters to Santa, which he happily read before heading back to the North Pole to prepare for Christmas Eve. ❄️✉️
Thank you to the PTO who helped make this unforgettable holiday experience so special for our students. The smiles, laughter, and Christmas spirit truly filled the school! ❤️🎁

We are excited to recognize students who were caught in the act of demonstrating STAR behavior — showing Self-control, Taking responsibility, a positive Attitude, and Respect throughout the school day. ⭐
Each time a student earned a star card when they displayed STAR behavior, their name was added to the STAR Bingo Board. When 10 names connected, it was a BINGO! Those students earned an extra prize, proudly presented by our vice principal, Mrs. Ferentino. 🎁👏
We are so proud of our students for making positive choices and being great role models. Keep shining and showing your STAR qualities — the next BINGO could be yours! 🌟✨
