🎃👻 Mrs. Melvin’s Annual “Melvin Monster Mash” Was a Smash! 👻🎃
On Thursday, Mrs. Melvin hosted her annual Halloween party, the “Melvin Monster Mash”! 🧟‍♀️🧪 Students kicked off the day with a fun STEM challenge — using clay, play dough, and other materials to design and build a monster that could stand on its own. Talk about creativity, critical thinking, and planning! 💡🧠
Next, students got spooky with a balloon activity 🎈— designing their own ghosts and using only their fine motor skills to “keep it up” while lying on the floor (no hands or moving allowed!). 👻💪
In teams, they took on the “Balance the Eyeball” challenge 👁️🥄 — navigating the red hallway upstairs while passing a plastic eyeball on a spoon from one teammate to another. Great teamwork and balance skills! 🤝
Then came “Straws and Spiders” 🕷️ — students used just two straws and a spider ring to move it from one place to another, using clever strategies and critical thinking. 🧩
Finally, it was time for the Catapult Challenge! 🪀 Mrs. Melvin explained how catapults can be built with simple sticks, rubber bands, and Gatorade lids. Students then tested their designs to see how far their rubber spiders could fly — or as they said, “catch the wind!” 🌬️🕸️
The day was filled with tricks, treats, laughter, and lots of learning! 🍬📚
A spooktacular time was had by all — both educational and memorable! 🧡🖤

🌱 STEM Lab Update! 🌿
Today we “fed” our plants some nutrients to help them grow bigger and stronger! 💪🌼
We also took an up-close look at our tomato plant sprouts — the ones we’ve been growing all the way from seed (unlike our other plants that started as seedlings). It’s amazing to see how much they’ve grown! 🍅✨
Our STEM Lab is also pulling double duty lately — it’s been the perfect spot for yoga sessions with Mr. McDermott! 🧘‍♂️ The calm sound of water flowing from our hydroponic farm stands and the soft glow of the grow lights make it such a peaceful environment. 🌊💡

🚒🔥 Fire Safety Month Visit! 🔥🚒
The Hughestown Firefighters visited our second-grade students today and brought along the Smoke House, provided by the West Side Mutual Aid Association with funding from Kait Kare’s.
Inside the simulated house filled with (safe!) smoke, students practiced how to crawl low and stay below the smoke — and learned some very important fire safety tips, including:
✅ Designating a family meeting place outside
✅ Checking doors for heat before opening
✅ Yelling for help out a window if you can’t get out
✅ Crawling down stairs backwards, feet first
✅ Calling 911 once safely outside
✅ Never going back inside for anything
October is Fire Safety Month, so be sure to review your family’s fire plan — and don’t forget to change your smoke detector batteries this Sunday!

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Stand Tall Club for visiting our Primary Center today! ❤️Your message about making smart choices and understanding the dangers of drugs and alcohol truly inspired our students.
It’s never too early to learn the importance of staying healthy, confident, and drug-free. 💪 Your stories and encouragement showed our young learners that standing tall means standing strong for what’s right!
Thank you for making a positive impact on our school community! 🙌

🎃Pittston Area hosted an amazing HalloSTEAM event where science and Halloween fun came together! 👻🧪
Students explored hands-on STEAM activities — connecting circuits to make light-up necklaces, observing chemical reactions to create “poison apples,” and tackling exciting building challenges. They also observed sound waves in action and participated in a variety of other engaging activities and demonstrations!
It was a spook-tacular day of curiosity, creativity, and discovery — proving that learning can be both educational and electrifying! ⚡🎃

Our Pittston Area Patriot family came together in full spirit — proud former teachers cheering, excited young students lining the halls, and proud parents watching their seniors shine!
What an amazing tradition to celebrate how far these incredible young men and women have come. Once little Patriots… always Patriots. ❤️💙
