We started by sorting jellybeans by color and creating bar graphs to connect with our math lessons. Then, students took on a hands-on STEM challenge—building 3D shapes using jellybeans and toothpicks!
Next came our jellybean rainbow experiment. Students made predictions about what would happen when warm water was added… and they were amazed to see the colors dissolve and swirl into a beautiful rainbow just like they hypothesized! 🌈✨
We wrapped up the day with a delicious ice cream sundae party 🍦—the perfect ending to a fun-filled day of learning and discovery!

Our upstairs second grade classrooms welcomed students today with a special Bunny Brunch 🧺 filled with an assortment of fresh fruits 🍓🍍, veggies 🥕🥒, and festive Easter-themed goodies 🐣🍪!
It was a fun and delicious way to celebrate together as we get ready for Easter break 🌷☀️.
Wishing all of our students and families a very Happy Easter! 💐🐰💛

Even with an unexpected power outage, our school switched to a backup generator and kept the day running until around 11 AM when the power was restored. With limited lights and technology, our students truly shined—showing flexibility, positivity, and great behavior all morning long! 💡✨
A big THANK YOU to our families for your patience and understanding during today’s outage—we appreciate your support more than ever! 💙

Good news! The Primary Center has restored power. There may be a few minor disruptions. We will continue to keep you updated.
Currently, the Primary Center does not have power. The children are safe and in their classes. The situation is being evaluated. If the children are sent home, it will be between 11:30-12:00. A detailed message will be sent home immediately.
We will send updates as soon as we receive them.
Our second graders put their scientist hats on and got to work with some “peep-tastic” experiments! 🐣💡
First, students explored what happens when Peeps are placed in different liquids. They tested water, warm water, vinegar, vegetable oil, soda, milk, and even baking soda mixtures! 🧪🥛 The students carefully observed changes and recorded what happened—did the Peeps dissolve, expand, or stay the same? So many surprising results! 😲📊
Next up… the Peeps in the Microwave experiment! ⚡🐥
Students asked big questions like:
👉 What will happen to the Peep in the microwave?
👉 Will it grow, shrink, melt, or disappear?
They made predictions (hypotheses) and then watched in amazement as the Peeps expanded into giant fluffy shapes! 🤯☁️
This hands-on STEM activity helped students practice observation, prediction, and critical thinking—all while having a little sugary fun! 🍬❤️

• 🤝 A safe, welcoming space for families to learn and explore together
• 🎉 Engaging events that make learning fun and meaningful
Let’s work together to grow lifelong readers — we hope to see our Pittston families at the library this month! 💙📖

Our little learners sorted jellybeans by color and turned their findings into bright, colorful graphs. We talked about which colors we had the most of, the least of, and everything in between—so much great math thinking happening!
And of course… the best part… they got to enjoy their tasty data afterwards! 😄💕
Learning + a little sugar = a perfect day in kindergarten!

Thursday, April 2 is an Act 80 Day with early dismissal—car riders will be dismissed at 12:45 PM, and bussing will begin at 1:00 PM ⏰🚗🚌.
There will be no school for Spring Break from April 3–6 🌸😎. Students will return to school on Tuesday, April 7 🎒✨.

Our cafeterias are serving up nutritious, delicious meals all month long to keep students fueled, focused, and ready to learn each day! 🍎🥪🥛

🥗 April is Black Beans Month! Black beans are part of the legume family—along with peanuts, lentils, peas, and soybeans—and are packed with iron, folate, fiber, and protein, making them a nutritious choice for any meal. They also have a rich history, originating in Central and South America and serving as a staple food for over 7,000 years!
✨ Reminder: Breakfast and lunch are FREE for ALL students! ✨

They headed outside to take on five “egg-cellent” Easter egg activities. The egg-and-spoon race was no joke—rolling an egg with a spoon was so tricky that some plastic eggs even cracked in half! 😄 Students had to carefully balance their eggs during the relay race.
Next up was the basketball shoot 🏀—each student had to “shoot” 15 plastic eggs into their matching color bucket! Then came the team color relay, where teams raced to sort their eggs into the correct colored buckets as fast as they could.
But the highlight of the day was the Humpty Dumpty Challenge 🥚👑! Teams worked together to put their eggs “back together again,” then raced to carefully place them in the correct bucket. They had to be extra careful not to cross into another team’s path!
It may have been a bit brisk outside ❄️, but we were absolutely boiling with “egg-citement”! 🔥🥳

In Room 116, learning is in full bloom with Mrs. Ignatovich (Speech Teacher 🗣️) and Mrs. Chaump (1st Grade Reading Specialist 📚)! 🌼 After exploring colorful poems, students brought their creativity to life by building beautiful rainbows and writing vivid, descriptive sentences 🎨🌈.
They also got their hands busy planting “speech & language” skills with adorable potted creations 🌱💬—practicing vocabulary, expression, and communication every step of the way! Way to grow, Room 116! 💚🌟

They’ve noticed some fun (and funny!) behaviors—like the ducks’ attraction to shiny objects, shoe laces, and even curly long hair! 👟✨ The students have also been observing preening and learning how ducks care for their feathers, along with taking a closer look at their webbed feet.
Each night, the ducks head home with their “babysitters,” where Mrs. Ferentino even let them enjoy some swim time 🏊♂️💛—she truly is the best duck babysitter!
We’re excited to continue these hands-on learning experiences, and the ducks will be with us for a few more days next week! 🐥🐣

Each student filled a plastic egg with a special item and created thoughtful, descriptive clues to help their classmates guess what was inside. This fun and engaging activity reinforced oral reading, public speaking, and critical thinking skills in an exciting way!
We loved seeing our students build confidence as they shared their clues and listened closely to others. Way to go, readers and thinkers! 💛👏

Thank you!
Our classes have been having such a special time visiting the ducklings in the art room! 🐣🎨 Students are gently petting their soft down feathers, carefully observing how they preen to spread oil and keep their feathers waterproof, and watching them grow a little more each day. 🪶💛
After spending time observing, students are doing kid writing and summaries to share what they’ve learned. They’ve been exploring the duck life cycle—from egg, to embryo, to hatching (“unzip & pip!”), to duckling, and learning it takes about 28 days to hatch! 🥚⏱️ They’ve also learned how the incubator keeps eggs warm and how the brooder box, with a heat lamp, food, and water, helps keep the ducklings safe and healthy. 🔥💧🥣
Students are even learning fun facts like how ducks have webbed feet for swimming, how preening helps make feathers waterproof, and the names of different duck breeds like Saxony, Khaki Campbell, and Rouen. 🦆🌊
We love seeing their curiosity, gentle care, and excitement as they learn through this hands-on experience! 💕
