For nearly 35 days, students became real-life scientists as they observed caterpillars transform through the amazing process of metamorphosis into beautiful butterflies! 🐛➡️🦋 Students tracked daily changes, charted growth, listened to stories, watched videos, sang songs, and lovingly cared for their tiny classroom visitors along the way. 🔬📚🎶
The fun even included a friendly game of Butterfly Jeopardy! 🏆💡
Today was release day, and while our butterflies spread their wings and flew away, a few seemed pretty comfortable staying with their second grade friends a little longer! ☀️🌸🦋

Mrs. Flynn proudly presents to you, her SUPERHEROES! The boys and girls in her class are the authors and illustrators of their published class book, “1st Grade Superheroes”! They worked so hard on this book using their imagination along with their writing and drawing skills! They had the opportunity to dress like superheroes during their book release day on Tuesday! Great job to these amazing first graders! 👏 👏👏

Graduation tickets were sent home in the yellow folders today. Please keep them in a safe place until the graduation next week. Please note that if you do not have enough tickets, we will not be issuing anymore, but once all tickets have been collected, there will be limited space for walk in guests.
Please remember to have your child report to school at normal time on the day of their graduation. The students will be permitted to leave after their ceremony.

Later in the day, students got creative while making spinner crafts and also enjoyed a special visit from the Hughestown Fire Department and ambulance crew. Students loved getting an up-close look at the emergency vehicles and learning more about the important work first responders do 🚒🚑

🚀🌌 Second Grade Completed Their STEM Space Missions! 🌌🚀
Our 2nd grade students wrapped up Remake Learning Days at the Primary Center with an exciting day of hands-on, outer space–themed learning!
Throughout the event, students collaborated to create and construct model space shelters from cardboard materials, tested launch techniques with high-flying cup rockets, and designed colorful spinning planets to demonstrate movement in our solar system. 🌎✨ Students also explored beginning coding concepts by navigating Sphero Indi Bots through space challenges and experimented with magnetic galaxy slime to observe how magnets interact with different materials. 🤖🧪🚀
These interactive stations encouraged communication, creativity, perseverance, problem-solving, and scientific thinking while allowing students to learn through exploration and discovery.
A special thank you to our Primary Center STEM Coordinator, Mrs. Luvender, along with Mrs. Reza, Mrs. Zambetti, Mrs. Chesneak, Mr. Naples, and Mrs. Davis for creating and facilitating these amazing learning experiences! 👏🚀 Thank you as well to Mr. Kupetz, District STEM Coordinator, and to our administration for continually supporting meaningful STEM initiatives and hands-on learning opportunities for our students.
We are so proud of our young scientists, engineers, coders, and explorers! 🌟

As part of our Outer Space theme, students participated in exciting STEM stations designed by our incredible STEM Team and Primary Center STEM Coordinator, Mrs. Luvender. A special thank you to Mrs. Reza, Mrs. Zambetti, Mrs. Chesneak, Mr. Naples, and Mrs. Davis for helping facilitate these engaging learning experiences for our students! 👏✨
Students worked together to engineer cardboard Solar Shelters, strengthening teamwork and problem-solving skills. 🚀 They explored force and motion by launching Flying Cup Rockets, created rolling Tea Light Planets to learn about planetary movement, coded Sphero Indi Bots to complete space missions, and investigated magnetism and matter through Magnetic Galaxy Slime. 🤖🧪🌙 These hands-on activities encouraged creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and scientific discovery in a fun and meaningful way.
Although our in-school Remake Learning Days activities have wrapped up, families can continue the adventure by visiting the amazing Hubble and James Webb Space Telescope exhibit at the Everhart Museum! The exhibit, “New Views of the Universe,” is open through July 2026 and features real NASA and Smithsonian-developed experiences, telescope models, hands-on activities, and breathtaking images of planets, galaxies, black holes, and more. 🌌🔭
Families can also continue exploring additional Remake Learning Days events happening throughout our community through May 23rd. These events provide wonderful opportunities for children and families to learn together through STEM, art, technology, nature, and creative play.

Today at the Primary Center, our classrooms were filled with vibrant learning as we celebrated Cinco de Mayo! Students explored the history behind the day and learned about the rich culture of Mexico through engaging lessons and activities. 🇲🇽📚
Some classes even got a special taste of the celebration by enjoying delicious Mexican foods as part of their cultural experience—because learning is even better when you can taste it! 😋🌯
It was a wonderful day of culture, curiosity, and connection. Experiences like these help our students grow into globally aware learners—one celebration at a time! 💛🌎

Our Pittston Area Primary Center was out of this galaxy as we celebrated Star Wars Day! 🚀 The halls were filled with Princess Leias, brave Jedi, and some very impressive Star Wars-themed shirts.
Students spent the day learning Star Wars style—with literacy and math activities that had a fun, intergalactic twist 🌟📚➕
Classes even enjoyed a special treat—blue milk 💙 (a fun nod to the iconic drink from the Star Wars movies, famously seen on Luke Skywalker’s home planet!) along with cookies and creative crafts.
It was a day full of imagination, learning, and just the right amount of Jedi magic! 🌌✨ #MayTheFourthBeWithYou

Our students had an amazing time participating in Remake Learning Days with hands-on, outer space–themed STEM stations that brought learning to life! Today was our 1st grade students’ turn, we’re excited for Kindergarten tomorrow, and 2nd grade will blast off on Friday!
Students worked together during Solar Shelter Builders to design blueprints and construct space shelters using cardboard, strengthening their understanding of engineering design, teamwork, and problem-solving.
During Flying Cup Rockets, students explored forces and motion by launching rockets with cups and rubber bands, discovering how push and pull affect takeoff and movement.
In Tea Light Planets, students rolled paint-covered spheres to create planets while observing patterns and learning about planetary movement through creative expression.
With Sphero Indi Bot Coders, students practiced early coding skills by guiding robots through a space mission, building sequencing, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
At Magnetic Galaxy Slime, students created magnetic slime and experimented with magnets, exploring the properties of matter and observing how different forces impact movement.
From engineering to coding to creative exploration, our students truly became scientists, engineers, and space explorers! 🚀✨
