The 2nd grade students at Pittston Area Primary Center harvested their hydroponic garden today after six weeks of growing vegetables in the STEM Lab! This hands-on project was a follow-up to the story “The Ugly Vegetables.”
Well… these vegetables were anything but ugly! 😄
The students grew and harvested many different kinds of lettuces and herbs, including butter lettuce, dazzling blue kale, green bunching onion, red butter lettuce, and spinach, just to name a few. After carefully tending their plants and watching them grow, today was the exciting day to harvest and enjoy their hard work.
Students made their own fresh salads and topped them with ranch or Italian dressing—a delicious reward for their gardening success! 🥬🌿
Hands-on learning like this helps our students explore science, nutrition, and responsibility while having fun in the process. Great job, young gardeners! 👩🌾👨🌾🌱

Students at the Pittston Area Primary Center had an exciting and educational experience during the PPL Safety Circus Assembly! Through fun demonstrations and engaging performances, students learned how electricity is made, how it travels to our homes, and how it powers the things we use every day.
The program also focused on important electrical safety tips, teaching students how to stay safe around power lines, outlets, and electrical equipment. Learning about safety in such a fun and memorable way helps students understand how powerful electricity is and why it’s important to respect it.
A big thank you to PPL for bringing this entertaining and educational program to our students and helping them become smart and safe around electricity! ⚡👏

🐣🦆 Ducklings Are Almost Here at Pittston Area Primary Center! 🦆🐣
For the past three weeks, students at the Pittston Area Primary Center have been learning about ducks while our eggs develop safely in the incubator. If all goes as planned, our ducklings should begin hatching next week!
Students explored the hatching process by creating a fun duckling collage. Their artwork shows the exciting moment when a duckling begins with a tiny “pip” (the first crack in the egg) and then “unzips” the shell to hatch into the world!
They also learned that ducklings are covered in soft down feathers, and students recreated that fluffy texture in art using sponge painting techniques.
Throughout the project, we’ve been monitoring the eggs’ development through candling, which lets us safely observe the growing ducklings inside the eggs. Students have also been learning about where ducks live—both on farms and in the wild—and why they need a water source like a pond for dabbling, finding food, and staying healthy.
The excitement is growing as we get closer to hatch day. Stay tuned for updates as our ducklings get ready to make their big debut! 🐥✨

Did you know that 1 in 10 Americans is living with a rare disease? The zebra is the official mascot, representing the “uncommon” medical answers doctors are encouraged to consider. Just like every zebra’s stripes are unique, every individual’s journey is unique too.
Our students joined the movement to #ShowYourStripes by wearing zebra-themed clothing and learning about the importance of awareness, compassion, and inclusion. We are so proud of their support for this meaningful cause! 🦓✨

We’re also proud to recognize our hardworking readers in 1st and 2nd grade who earned a special award for being in the 25 Point Club with 80% accuracy at this point in the school year — what an amazing accomplishment! 👏📖
We can’t wait to celebrate a month full of stories and reading success! ❤️📚
