Each grade level has been working on their own pumpkin-inspired masterpieces, and the results are as unique as each young artist:
🍂 Kindergarten — Inspired by the beloved book character Spookley the Square Pumpkin, our youngest artists practiced their fine motor skills by cutting, gluing, and painting their very own square pumpkins.
🌻 1st Grade — First graders explored crayon resist techniques to create vibrant pumpkin landscape paintings in the style of Vincent van Gogh. Their swirling skies and glowing pumpkins are truly a work of art!
🧡 2nd Grade — Second graders mixed primary colors to make their own painted papers, then collaged expressive facial features to design Picasso-inspired pumpkins full of personality and bold shapes.
Mrs. Davis’ classroom pumpkin patch is a celebration of art history, creativity, and fall fun. 🍁✨

First and Second grade students will bring their completed reading logs to Mrs. Chaump and Kindergarten will turn their logs into Mrs. Rava.
The class in each grade that reads the most books will earn a pizza party. 🍕

The second-grade students have been reading stories about dogs. They enjoyed Henry and Mudge 🐕—a fun story about a boy and his dog—and Dogs, which teaches interesting facts about our furry friends 📚.
Each classroom is working on their own writing piece ✍️. As a wonderful community activity, the SPCA came to talk with us about all the amazing things they do for different kinds of animals 🐾🐱🐰.
The kids had so many great questions for Carol, and they especially loved meeting Scooby 💕. (Good news: Scooby is available for adoption too! 🏡🐶)
Be sure to check out our candid photos 📸 and all the awesome donations we collected 🎁🐾

Students who demonstrated STAR behavior had their names added to our STAR Bingo Board. When a full line of 10 connected — BINGO! — those lucky students received a special prize from our principal, Mr. Savokinas! 🎁👏

Students conducted a science experiment with “erupting apple volcanoes,” played Pass the Apple, made Johnny Appleseed hats, and created an apple-themed craft to take home.
The highlight of the day? 🍏 Making homemade applesauce — and it was a big hit!
We’re so proud of our little learners for exploring, creating, and tasting their way through this special day. ❤️🍎

🍎 Johnny Appleseed Day at Pittston Primary Center! 🌱
Today our entire Primary Center celebrated Johnny Appleseed’s birthday with a variety of activities across grade levels! Students learned all about John Chapman (aka Johnny Appleseed) and explored his story through reading, writing, art, music, and science.
Across the building, classes participated in creative apple-themed lessons:
🎨 Art: George Seurat-inspired dot apple paintings
🎶 Music: Singing lively apple-themed songs
🍏 Spotlight on Mrs. Hughes’ and Mrs. Zambetti’s 2nd Grade Classes.
Mrs. Hughes’ students combined writing, science, and math for an exciting day of learning! They wrote their own “If I Were Johnny Appleseed…” stories. Both classes made hypotheses to test whether apples float or sink, and experimented with different substances to see what keeps apples from turning brown — lemon juice was the winner! 🍋 Mrs. Zambetti’s class even made homemade apple sauce!
We loved seeing our students engaged in so many hands-on, cross-curricular activities while celebrating this American legend!
#PittstonPrimary #JohnnyAppleseed #CreativeLearning #CrossCurricular #STEM

Students engaged in differentiated apple-themed activities, including creating beautiful apple paintings and using apple manipulatives to build patterns and practice counting skills. 🍏🍎
Hands-on learning made the day both fun and educational as we honored Johnny Appleseed’s legacy! ❤️📚
